Commencement: Frequently Asked Questions

What time do I need to arrive for commencement?

On the day of Commencement please arrive promptly at 5:00 pm in the Instructional Center for the assembly of academic procession and robing. Often the parking lots get full early, please allow extra time for parking.

If the weather is uncertain, how will I know if the ceremony is indoors or outside?

Please check the GCC website for Commencement information in the event of inclement weather.

How many rain tickets will I receive for guests? Where do I get tickets?

Each graduate receives two rain tickets that can be picked up after April 9 in the College Bookstore. You must present a valid Photo ID and your Student ID number when picking up rain tickets.

Are there extra rain tickets?

Only two tickets are allowed for each graduate. All guest who are not admitted in the gymnasium, will be diverted to alternate viewing areas on campus.

How do I know if my name is on the Graduation list?

The May Graduation List will be posted in the Student Development (Advisement) area in the Student Services Building by February 1st. Please check the spelling of your name and degree.

I am not participating in the ceremony, how will I receive my diploma?

You may pick up diploma in the Office of Enrollment Services in the Student Services building between May 21 - June 14. You must present a valid Photo ID when picking up your diploma. The Office is open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Evening hours are Wednesday until 7:00 pm. After June 16th diplomas will be mailed to the student's home address.
